Wild Dolphin Tour in Sian Ka'an
For the nature oriented, the Wild Dolphin Tour to Sian Ka’an is experiencing a tropical paradise of superlatives. The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is home to a variety of rare and spectacular creatures including dolphins, manatees, tropical fish and hundreds of species of exotic birds.
Before we start the Wild Dolphin Tour we will meet our guide arriving at the lodge, where we will receive a short information about Sian Ka’an. For those inexperienced in snorkeling we will give a short introduction, so we will be ready to go out by boat.
We start searching for wild bottle nose dolphins, they are the most charismatic and interesting animals. There is a group living permanently in Sian Ka'an. Through 16 years of operation we have found that they would come to see us in the same place almost every time, not for food, but curiosity. Sometimes they are watching us without us watching them, they have an ultrasound sense that allows them to see miles away in the water, like our eyes in the air, while our visibility might be between 10 and 30 feet in the area where they usually are. We have an 90% chance of meeting them in their natural habitat. Have your cameras ready for the most amazing pictures!
Same day we will look for caguama and white turtle. Humans are very spooky to them, wonder why? Well, we are a natural predator. They don't really trust the "eco-tour" yet.
During the tour we'll have many opportunities for bird watching. In the middle of Ascension Bay we will stop at the fragate nesting mangle. Here we will have the opportunity to see these birds in their sexual flirting and nesting, we might as well see pelican, bobo, cormorant and other species. Flamingo, spoonbill, eagles, parrots and herons are common to find.
At the end of the trip we will stop at one of the reefs to look for starfish, turtles, tropical fish and other reef creatures. Back to the beach by the lodge, you can just lay back and relax for a while or explore the local reef close to the shore, before we will bring you back to your hotel.
