Villa Luminosa
One of the only villas where you can see the sunrise and sunset over water, Villa Luminosa is the perfect place to enjoy the rich Caribbean air. As the tallest Villa on Tankah Bay, the views from the roof are enhanced by its location at the north point of the bay.
or wait for the slideshow to load below Tankah bay is 90 miles south of Cancun and just a few miles north of Tulum. The fun starts as you ascend the master staircase onto the second level and jump in the pool that over looks the water. This is where the outside comes in and you fire up the gas BBQ grill and entertain by the pool. Need a break from all the pool and beach activities, go up to the third floor and enjoy the open kitchen/dining/living room or step out on the palapa covered veranda and open a book. There are 4 master suites with 2 off the second level by the pool and 2 off the third level by the living room. All the wonderful spaces at the villa have been touched by the subtle warmth of Mexican ticul marble and artistic accents. Don't delay, just come to Villa Luminosa and play! Season 2010

Complimentary / Main Features Indoor Features Outdoor Features Recommended Services Scott San Diego, CA The comfort and beauty of the house was above expectations. The beach was comfortable, well kept, and on a private bay, which meant little to no traffic. The pool is cozy and deep, there are 3 dining areas, not counting the roof, and almost everywhere you turn you have a view worth looking at. As for the staff, I can't say enough good things. The property manager was attentive and quick to address issues. The live in manager and his wife were exceptionally friendly and WOW could they cook. The meals they prepared for our group were fantastic, to say the least. Our dinners out could hardly compare, and oftentimes didn't. The location of the house is very good for tourists as well as those looking for a quiet escape.About 5-10 minutes down a private road, it is within 15-30 minutes from a multitude of cenotes, adventure parks, diners, beaches, and small villages. Not only I will return when possible, but I will most certainly recommend to all friends and family. Geoff Temecula, CA We DID pick the right accommodations. Villa Luminosa was much more enjoyable than its web-site's pictures can convey. The bedrooms are more than spacious, each with its own air-conditioner and bathroom. I stayed in a lower level bedroom which even had my own refrigerator. The pool was the perfect size, and gave the entire downstairs a resort feel. The main house upstairs was as comfortable as being at home, and the roof-top deck provided 360° views. We always enjoy saving money by cooking our own meals, and their full kitchen made this even more enjoyable. But the meals Francisco prepared for us were simply fabulous, authentic Mexican: "Muí delicioso!" We can't wait to get back and enjoy the normal, sunny weather that region is so famous for. We give Villa Luminosa and their staff our highest recommendation!!! The Hides and The Keatings August 2008 What a fabulous stay at your Villa Luminosa. Relaxing, peaceful, renewing…Our family had a wonderful stay with hours in the water each day. Francisco and Alicia are gems and made our stay carefree.Muchas gracias! Rick Detroit, MI I recently stayed at Villa Luminosa, I wanted to take a minute to explain what an incredible stay we had. When we arrived in the evening so it was dark, my first impression was "WOW this place is incredible".Then the next day the sun came out and I could see the view from the top deck, my impression from the night before was an understatement. This is an incredible Villa in the middle of "heaven on earth".The staff that runs Villa Luminosa are even better than the view, Francisco and Alicia made us feel like royalty. The food they prepared was BETTER than any 4-5 star restaurants. They kept the house and the grounds very clean, and were NEVER in the way, always extremely polite and friendly.I considering packing them in my suitcase and bringing them home.We were there for a business/pleasure trip, during hurricane Ida, it rained most days. The staff made our group so comfortable and relaxing it didn't matter it was raining.I can't wait for my next chance to stay at Villa Luminosa.Thank you, thank you, thank you, the house, staff, management team, all were incredible. Bridget November 2008 A grand thank for the use of your villa. We had a fabulous stay and Alicia and Francisco were incredible cooks and we enjoyed their company very, very much. The meals they cooked for us were the highlight of our week. Thanks again. The Maginnnis Family November 2008 The entire family ages 3-63 enjoyed a wonderful week together celebrating Thanksgiving 2008. Lots of sun, beach, pool and laughs. Francisco and Alicia spoiled us with their excellent cooking. We were grateful for our special week in Mexico and wonderful memories to share throughout the years. Christo Southbend, ID First I want the staff to know how much we appreciated the attentiveness you gave us for our stay. Rhett thanks for showing up and keeping in touch to make sure we were AOK and for arranging our meal for the first night!! And Eddie thanks for getting the menu to Francisco! The house was great! The new water pressure system was super!PLEASE, PLEASE - MAKE SURE to share how much we appreciated Poncho and Alicia's efforts!!! The cooking was remarkable - the guys could not say enough GREAT things - seriously. When we did eat out the first thing they would say is "Not as good as Francisco's and Alicia's food. The guacamole and pico de gallo were plentiful and perfect for snacks and munchies everyday, they thoroughly enjoyed it! They made sure our rooms were cleaned and made-up every day, we had clean towels, etc, etc. We did our best to clean up after ourselves by doing dishes and keeping the place "tidy", but Alicia always made sure everything was spotless - amazing! Even little things like helping me order pizza and having the garage door opened when we would come home at night. We noticed it all and we are very appreciative! I am sure Alicia was in shock by the mucho cantidad las latas de cerveza she had to haul away everyday.Again - thank you all - as I know to be very true due to the nature of my business, it takes a great team to make things happen and move effectively and efficiently - you are a good team - keep it up!This was a very important retreat for my team and it went down perfectly. Marilyn Christmas/New Years 2009 This has given us a beautiful space to renew our family. I love the simple, spacious style—view and breezeway. The Viponds Fargo, ND We were thrilled that the photos & website were real - we were surprised by the size - very comfortable. We had a much needed, relaxing week here! Francisco & Alicia treated us to a super meal. we're checking our 2010 calendar! Quiet beach & lazy days were a welcome from our busy schedule up north (10 inches of snow fell while we were here). The simplicity here was inviting - Oh & we used the grill almost everyday. The Van Deggelens June 2009 Our family of 5 plus a family friend had a wonderful 10 days stay at your beautiful villa! We had Francisco cook 7 nights out of ten and loved every meal and had Chili Rellenos twice! Also enjoyed the fajitas, enchiladas, shrimp with garlic butter, filet de pescado, and Poc Chuc. He and Alicia made our visit wonderful and our oldest son enjoyed visiting with them in Spanish every night. We enjoyed the beaches at Akumal, El Paraiso, La Vita Bella, & La Zebra beach clubs for lunch and the afternoon. We had lunch at Zamas one day and ate at Lol Ha in Akumal twice, plus La Buena Vida. My husband enjoyed breakfast at Blue Sky. We decided to see Coba and climbed the big pyramid plus the cenote this visit. We enjoyed a visit at Xcaret beach (no chairs and take a cooler). Rich & Page Sand Point Beach, ID May 8-18, 2009 Spent a GREAT 10 days despite swine influenza hysteria. This location & the house are amazing - beautiful and relaxing. Thank you for sharing your happy place! Pancho and Alicia are terrific, and man can Pancho cook! We head back north refreshed and with slower internal clocks. definitely recommend Grand Cenote and Coba. Sue, Steve, Sydney, Raenna, Monica & Nicole June 12-20, 2009 What a beautiful home you have! We are so grateful you allow us to spend time here! My husband Steve and I came with our two teenage daughter and their friends, and no one wanted to go back home. Unfortunately we did not have Francisco and Alicia cook. Too much running around, but they are non the less wonderful. The peacefulness and beauty of this wonderful place was exactly what we needed. Lynda & Lawrie August 21, 2009 When my sisters and I were kids, Dad’s favorite trick was to announce early in the morning that we were going on a “Mystery Trip” and to be in the car in an hour or we would get left behind.Road trips – I love em. This Monday Lawrie and I, and Richard Lowe (island friend) piled into our car and went on a road trip to the Tankah area, near Tulum Mexico. We caught the car ferry at a civilized time of 09:30 a.m. and headed south. First stop was Pelicanos Restaurant in Puerto Morelos for lunch. Situated on the beach at Puerto Morelos it was the perfect place to enjoy the view of the ocean, white sand, and kids having a great time in the surf. We continued south to an area just north of Tulum and turned off the four-lane highway onto a rutted dirt road that took us past many million dollar homes lining the sandy beaches. Richard and Harriet have a lovely and very large four-bedroom rental house Villa Luminosa on the beach in Tankah, and this is where we spent the next two nights. On the way to the house we passed the Manatee Cenote swimming hole at dusk. Both Lawrie and I were absolutely certain that we saw a manatee in the water. However, the locals all expressed skepticism at our discovery as they have not seen any manatees for quite a few years. (Honestly! We saw one!) Our first night we drove a few more miles south to the beach area at Tulum and ate at a fabulous beachside Italian Restaurant in the Posada Margherita. The owner/waiter came to our table and described our four dinner choices for the evening; grilled fish, fish sautéed in sea water, pasta with lobster, and pasta with veggies. We made our choices, ordered a yummy bottle of red wine – and five minutes later he returned with a wonderful selection of complimentary appetizers. The food and wine were perfect. We enjoyed the experience so much that we returned in daylight to take better pictures of the Posada Margherita. After breakfast on Tuesday morning Richard directed us up the road towards Coba – we were on the search for the creator of wall plaques that are copies of the temple friezes at various Mayan ruins. First place we stopped had a few, but roadside vendor directed us farther on up the road past a couple of the small villages to where his dad and brothers made the pieces. We eventually settled on a triptych of three plaques for the wall near our pool. A little dickering over the price, lots of admiring of Don Alfredo’s other works and his autographed book by a famous photographer from New York, and the “boys” (adult men) wrapped our purchase in cardboard for the trip home. Next stop was back to the beaches of South Tulum to spend the afternoon at La Zebra Restaurant and Beach Club. It is in the same area as Posada Margherita, but further along the winding beach road. Great spot to fritter away a few hours in complete relaxation – white sand beaches, very few people, nice restaurant within a few steps of the beach, and a shower to rinse away the sand before changing back into traveling clothes. By 3:30 p.m. I was ready for a nap back at the house. However, our tour guide – Richard - still had more interesting places to show us. The Diamante K Restaurant and Cabanas, plus The Mezzanine Restaurant and Hotel – both of which are down along the North Tulum beach road. This area has many fabulous places, no power other than generators, very Eco-Chic according to the marketing materials. Later in the evening at Villa Luminosa, Richard had arranged for a grilled shrimp dinner to be prepared by Francisco, the live-in caretaker/chef. Wow! Served on the rooftop while we enjoyed the brilliant stars and warm breezes, it was a great way to end the day. Wednesday morning we started our circuitous route home: along the beaches of Akumal, breakfast at Turtle Bay Bakery and Café, a search for Costco in Playa de Carmen (misinformed – not built), a quick shopping trip to Costco in Cancun, and lunch at Las Flamingoes on the beach north of Cancun before catching the 2:45 p.m. car ferry back to Isla.
